the Kelowna paddle Centre invites you to join our next adventure

The Kelowna Paddle Centre is transforming our aging facility into a modern, accessible campus. We look forward to welcoming paddlers of all ages to our new centre at the north end of Pandosy Waterfront Park.

We are currently seeking donations to support operating costs and volunteers to support our fundraising campaign.
Our current facility is a repurposed house originally built in the 1960s. The City granted the Kelowna Paddle Centre permission to use the house in 2015 and our members did most of the work themselves to create a usable space. Despite the building's age and limitations, public programs for all ages host over 2,500 paddlers a year.
The updated Kelowna Paddle Centre campus will include two new buildings and extensive renovations of the current house. New amenities will include a community service desk opening directly onto the lakeshore, public multi-purpose activity centre, public washrooms, modern change rooms, training & classroom spaces, interior equipment storage, and improved boat storage racks.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does this help the community?

As a public facility, the Kelowna Paddle Centre welcomes over 2,000 non-members each year. The updated campus is designed to provide a better experience for everyone who visits the Kelowna Paddle Centre and to increase our capacity to provide programs and services to the community. Our members will benefit significantly from those improvements as the most frequent visitors to the centre.

Will the new campus be accessible?

The new design makes KPC an integral part of Pandosy Waterfront Park. As such, the campus will be open to the park on three sides and to the Abbot Street corridor on the east.

A new parking lot at the north end of the park will be right next to the KPC Community Service Centre with design elements catered specifically for paddlers. There will also be a new lay-by on Abbott Street for pick-ups and drop-offs, and gated bike storage inside the campus.

The campus grounds and buildings will incorporate many accessible design features missing from the current facility. This should facilitate the movement of both people and boats to and from the lake.

Why is KPC paying to improve a City-owned property?

Non-profit organizations operating on City land are responsible for capital improvements. Our Memorandum of Understanding with the City states that KPC will complete the upgrades to the campus prior to the end of our current lease, and doing so will enable us to enter into a new long-term lease with the City.

The City is also contributing significantly to the the project, including construction of the public washrooms and multi-purpose room, parking, landscaping, and demolition.

How do I make my donation and where does it go?

Read more on our Donation Guide & FAQ here. We have partnered with the BC Amateur Sport Fund so that you can receive a tax credit for your donation. Donations are currently being collected to support KPC operations but will allow us to retain a matching amount of revenue for construction costs.

Ten years ago, a small group of enthusiasts created a home for paddling on the shores of Lake Okanagan. With your help we can safeguard that home and realize their legacy.

The Kelowna Paddle Centre (KPC) has partnered with the BC Amateur Sport Fund to raise funds to support KPC operations from November 2024 to September 2025. The BC Amateur Sport Fund is the BC chapter of the Canadian Council of Provincial & Territorial Sport Federations, a Registered Canadian Amateur Athletics Association with charitable status. You may receive a tax receipt for your donation. Your gift to the Fund benefitting this project will allow us to maintain a high-level of operation and help us continue to develop paddling in BC providing the opportunity for our paddlers to compete on a national and international level. Thank you for your support!
